About this template
Suits truss and frame fabricators, joinery and carpentry workshops and building suppliers who cut, assemble, press and stack roof trusses and wall frames. It follows the job in order: design documents and layout, unloading and storing timber, cutting, assembly, nail plate pressing, nail guns, lifting and stacking finished product, dust and fire, loading trucks, and cleaning, isolation and shut-down. Installing trusses and erecting frames on site need their own SWMS.
Prefabricating trusses and wall frames in a factory or yard is not construction work unless the place is specifically established for the construction work (WHS Regulation s 289), so no item is pre-ticked and a SWMS is required by law only for high risk construction work (s 299). If the yard is set up for a construction project, tick the reg 291 items that apply, such as movement of powered mobile plant in the area; otherwise the document works as a written safe work procedure and task risk assessment.

What Is Covered In Our Roof Truss and Wall Frame Prefabrication SWMS?
After the standard pre-start checks, the job steps run from “Plan the work and check the design documents” to “Clean, maintain and shut down the equipment”. The hazards and controls include:
- Contact with saw blades and kickback
- Hands crushed in nail plate presses
- Nail gun discharge and ricochet
- Cuts from nail plate teeth and steel edges
- Timber packs and stacks falling or collapsing

- Strains from heavy and long members
- Noise, sawdust and combustible dust
- Treated timber and lubricant contact
- Hydraulic and air stored energy during maintenance
- Hose whip and compressed air
- Unrestrained loads leaving the yard
High Risk Construction Work
None of the high risk construction work items (WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld) s 291) are pre-ticked, because this job is not high risk construction work by itself. Tick any that apply on your site.
