About this template
Suits carpenters, door installers and builders hanging and fitting fire-rated door sets in homes, units and commercial buildings. It follows the work from checking the door set and the opening, through frame fixing, hanging, hardware, seals and testing, to handover records. It does not cover general door fix-out.
Fire door installation is not high risk construction work by itself. Under the WHS Regulation s 299 a SWMS is required before high risk construction work starts, for example when there is a risk of falling more than 2 m or asbestos may be disturbed; tick those items if they apply. Otherwise the document works as a written safe work procedure and task risk assessment.

What Is Covered In Our Fire Door Installation SWMS?
After the standard pre-start checks, the job steps run from “Plan the job: door set, opening and compliance paperwork” to “Clean up, remove waste and hand over”. The hazards and controls include:

- Door leaf falling while being hung
- Wrong or substituted parts reducing the fire rating
- Fire door not closing or latching
- Dust from cutting fire-rated cores
- Silica dust from drilling masonry
- Striking concealed services when fixing
- Spring tension in door closers
- Cuts from glass and hardware
- Electric shock when connecting hold-open devices
- Suspected asbestos in old doors and frames
- Fingers trapped between leaf and frame
High Risk Construction Work
None of the high risk construction work items (WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld) s 291) are pre-ticked, because this job is not high risk construction work by itself. Tick any that apply on your site.
