About this template

For splicing crews, maintenance contractors and plant teams who join conveyor belts with hot vulcanising presses at ports, bulk handling sites, recycling plants and factories. It follows the job from the splice plan and isolation through press set-up, preparing the belt ends, handling adhesives and solvents, pressing, curing and cooling to inspection and return to service. Belt changeouts need a separate SWMS.

Belt splicing and vulcanising at an industrial site is not high risk construction work by itself, so WHS Regulation s 299 requires a SWMS only where the work is high risk construction work (for example during a construction project). If it is, tick the reg 291 items that apply, such as a fall of more than 2 m, a confined space or energised electrical installations or services. Otherwise the document works as a written safe work procedure and task risk assessment. Coal mines and mines to which the mining safety Acts apply are outside the WHS Act (schedule 1, part 2, division 1, section 2(1)(a) and (b)).

  • Heavy platens and press parts
  • Failed splices put into service

High Risk Construction Work

None of the high risk construction work items (WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld) s 291) are pre-ticked, because this job is not high risk construction work by itself. Tick any that apply on your site.
