About this template

Suits carpenters, builders and landscapers who build timber decks and pergolas on houses and units. It covers services checks, post holes and footings, cutting treated timber, framing, decking, pergola beams and rafters, and finishing. Steel awnings and carports, elevated balcony construction, roofing and powered augers use separate SWMS.

A SWMS is legally required when the work is high risk construction work, such as work with a risk of a person falling more than 2 metres (WHS Regulation sections 291 and 299). That 2 metre test applies to housing construction too; the 3 metre figures in sections 306C and 306D only decide which fall controls apply. A low ground-level deck may not be high risk construction work, and then this document works as a written safe work procedure or task risk assessment. No item is pre-ticked. Tick the fall item if a person on your job could fall more than 2 metres.

High Risk Construction Work

None of the high risk construction work items (WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld) s 291) are pre-ticked, because this job is not high risk construction work by itself. Tick any that apply on your site.
