About this template

Suits any business with school-leavers, apprentices, casual and part-time workers, work experience students or volunteers under 18. It turns the Children and Young Workers Code of Practice 2006 into steps a supervisor can follow, and lists the age rules we found in the WHS Act and Regulation. It gives no ages, hours or wages from child employment law.

What Is Included In Our Young Workers Policy and Procedure?

  • Policy and procedure with an approval sign-off
  • Age-linked tasks found in the WHS Regulation: licences, quad bikes, refuelling, asbestos and demolition supervisors
  • Risk assessment before a young person starts
  • Induction topics and plain-language checks of understanding
  • Tasks a young worker should not do until trained and assessed
  • Supervision, pace of work and working alone
  • Bullying, harassment and psychosocial risks
  • The right to stop unsafe work explained to young workers
  • Work experience placements: school, provider and parent or carer contact
  • Records, training and review
